The Art of Shotts

“I enjoyed every week at the art group. The tutor was excellent as were all the people who attended. It takes you out of the house with the added bonus of making and sharing your ideas and making new friends.”

Bryony Murray worked with a group from Getting Better Together at Shotts Health Living Centre for several months in 2016. The group worked on a range of arts projects which included silk painting, felt-making and collage. They worked with the theme “A Place to Be” and created artwork based on places that made them feel good or that hold a special memory.

For many of the participants this project had been their first experience of making art since their school days and it would be fair to say that for some that was quite a while ago!

The class, which is ongoing, is a friendly and informal, where the participants get together to relax, meet new people, have a chat and learn new creative skills. The class has been an important part of the week for many people and they have found it to be very therapeutic.

“It’s been great to relax for a couple of hours through the week learning different types of art. As a beginner I have been surprised at how well everything has turned out. I have enjoyed meeting lovely new people.”
